住在West Moonah的Peter Bennett悲剧了,凌晨一点半的时候发现停在自己家外面的两辆车被点燃了,刚刚花了$3500刀修了的车,他们在居住的地方已经一年多了,在之前从来没有发生过任何事情。

TWO cars belonging to one family were among several vehicles damaged during an arson spree in West Moonah early yesterday morning.

The cars were all parked outside houses in Springfield Ave when the attackers struck about 1.30am.

The family of Peter Bennett, who lives with his wife Kathy and three children in a rented home, lost two cars.

His wife's SsangYong Musso was destroyed and an uninsured Commodore owned by his 18-year-old stepson Josh was damaged.

Both of the cars were parked on the street at the front of the home.

A Holden Gemini was also destroyed and another car damaged. It is believed they were owned by the people in the flat below the Bennetts' home.

Mr Bennett said he was woken about 1.30am yesterday by Josh, who sleeps over the garage near where the cars were, and who first noticed cars burning.

At first Mr Bennett said he thought he been told a lie about the fire until he went out the front door and saw the cars ablaze.

The family believe what occurred was a domestic issue totally unrelated to them, and their cars were wrongly targeted.

"It's someone's selfish act that we had nothing to do with," Mr Bennett said.

"We have copped a hell of a lot of damage," he said.

The Musso was insured and the insurer has provided a car for Mrs Bennett, who has two jobs.

Mr Bennett said he was too angry at first to talk with police, but his wife later lodged a statement.

"I was absolutely furious," Mr Bennett said.

He said just how the car fires were started was still under investigation.

The Musso had only recently had mechanical work done on it, which cost $3500.

The family had lived in the home for a year and had no trouble until this incident.

"I reckon this fire started in the Musso and they got maximum damage out of it," he said.

Firefighters were helped in their fight to protect the house by wind blowing flames away.

Mr Bennett was not confident that the person responsible would be found.

No information from police on this case was available last night.
