The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration in America has reported that 6080 BMW 5 Series sedan and Gran Turismo models, built between January 12 and July 1, 2010, have been recalled due to a faulty fuel gauge sensor.
The administration says the sensor can become wedged inside the tank, restricted float movement as the fuel level rises and falls. This could impair the in-car readout, suggesting more fuel is in the tank than what is actually available.
The Australian government hasn’t confirmed if this affects Australian-delivered vehicles yet, but if your car fits this description and you find yourself stationary on the side of the highway, you’ll probably know why.
We’ll keep you updated in any case.
