Each summer our Rio Tinto businesses across Australia have a large number of opportunities for University students studying in Australia or New Zealand, to undertake paid vacation work across a broad spectrum of disciplines.

We look for talented people who want challenging experiences, and the opportunity to work with people who are leaders in their field. You could work on technical projects, conduct research or be part of an operations team working at a range of exciting locations.  

Whatever the opportunity, you will be doing real work that will add value to our organisation, and you will learn a lot about being a part of the mining industry. Many of our vacation students go on to become our future Graduates, and potentially future leaders within the Rio Tinto group.

Each year we seek applications from students in some key discipline fields: Chemical/Process, Metallurgy, Electrical, Civil, Mechanical, Mining, Geotechnical, Mechatronics, Geology, Chemistry, Environmental, Surveying, Health Safety.

We are also seeking limited numbers of students in Commercial and IT disciplines.

Rio Tinto Information Systems Technology (IS&T) provides global information systems and technology infrastructure as well as services to the Rio Tinto Group.  The corporate office is based in Brisbane and each year this group takes on a limited number of vacation candidates usually from an IT background.

Rio Tinto Shared Services in Australia deliver a range of services and solutions to Rio Tinto businesses worldwide, including IT, Payroll, Financial and Facilities management.  Each year Rio Tinto Shared Services considers taking on a limited number of vacation students from commercial disciplines such as IT or Human Resources.
