Girl, 15, nabbed at 130km/h

A GIRL of 15 driving with her unlicensed mother has been caught doing 130km/h in an unregistered car.
She was nabbed when she overtook a police car.
Tasmania Police said the unmarked police car was travelling south on Hobart's Southern Outlet at 3pm yesterday when it was passed by a purple Magna sedan at high speed in the 100km/h zone.
Police pulled the car over and found the unlicensed 15-year-old at the wheel. The driver's 35-year-old mother was in the passenger seat.
The car had not been registered for more than six months.
Police said the girl had admitted she wanted to get to her destination quickly.
The mother, who had just finished a period of disqualification and was unlicensed, had no explanation.
"This was a young person driving with no licence, far too young to even get one, in an unregistered car and at high speed," Sgt Genevieve Hickman said.
"The explanation, or lack thereof, shows a complete disregard for their own safety and the safety of other road-users."
Police said the girl would be dealt with in the youth justice system.
The mother will be charged with offences including speeding by allowing her daughter to drive in that manner.
