Update 12:45pm: TWO people have been charged with the murder of student Zhang "Tina'" Yu, whose body was found dumped in a river.
Stavros Papadopoulos, 21, of New Town and Daniel Joseph Williams, 21, of Kingston, have been charged with murdering Ms Yu, a 26-year-old international student at the University of Tasmania, last Thursday.
The men appeared separately in the Hobart Magistrates Court this morning.
Papadopoulos appeared to have a black eye and was unshaven.
When asked if they understood the charge the men nodded.
They were not asked to enter a plea and they were remanded in custody and ordered to return to court on July 24.
The men were represented by lawyers.
The body of Ms Yu was found in the Tyenna River, off a track which runs off Gordon River Rd, in the Mt Field National Park area, 60km west of Hobart.
She was last seen walking in Hobart about 2am on Thursday. She was wearing a black, glittery knee-length sleeveless dress.
Ms Yu was studying in Hobart on a student visa.
Her disappearance was reported to the Chinese Embassy but it is not known whether her family in China have been notified of her death.
Jazmin Iris Haygarth, 18, and John Edward Mollineaux, 43, have been charged with failing to report the killing of Ms Yu.
According to court documents Haygarth lives with Papadopoulos in a unit on New Town Rd, while Mollineaux is their neighbour.
The two appeared in court briefly at midday and were remanded in custody until 2:15pm today. |
