ABS figures released yesterday show Tasmania's population has reached 500,278 and has broken the 500,000 mark.
The figure rose 0.28 per cent, or 1391 people, in the December 2008 quarter. Tasmania's population in December 2008 was 4901 persons, or 1 per cent, higher than in December 2007.
There was an increase in interstate migration of 398 people in the December quarter of 2008.
